Family Background:
Jye is a proud descendent of the Worimi and Dunghutti peoples and holds lineage to Biripi and Yorta Yorta Country as well as having ancestral connections overseas in Portugal and various Celtic and Scandinavian nations.
Biography:

Jye was born on Awabakal Country (New Lambton Heights) and raised on Worimi Country (Raymond Terrace) a short drive away from the sand dunes and saltwater. 

 

Jye began studying dance in his last two years of schooling at Irrawang High School before enrolling at NAISDA Dance College in 2014. Since graduating in 2017 he has worked as an independent artist working with many influential dance makers including Raymond D Blanco, Sani Ray Townson, Vicki Van Hout, Tairoa Royal, Jack Gray and Dance Makers Collective. 

 

Jye has also contributed as a member to “Lost All Sorts Collective,” an Indigenous Dance Collective striving to create new dance theatre works, instilling Indigenous stories, views and practices in a contemporary framework. He has also spent time as a First Nations tour guide at the Australian Museum working on many of the Museum's cultural events, exhibitions and gatherings.  

 

After spending a year with Bangarra in 2019, Jye is excited to return to the company in March 2024, and looks forward to dancing and sharing stories with the world.
