Leonora is a multi-faceted Torres Strait Islander with a passion for language, culture and the arts. She believes language is interconnected to all Cultural elements and explores the intersection of language, dance, music, stories and art.
Leonora has worked extensively in the field of language maintenance and revitalisation as a linguist, interpreter and translator of Kalaw Kawaw Ya (KKY) and Yumplatok.
She composes, performs and records songs in KKY. In addition, Leonora is the manager and costume designer of the award winning Naygayiw Gigi Dance Troupe. Leonora’s work with Bangarra includes Waru, Dance Clan and Kulka (Horizon).
For Horizon, Leonora has worked with Sani Townson as the Kalaw Kawaw Ya language consultant for Kulka.
