Bangarra Dance Theatre

Regional touring plays a vital part in the company’s activities and we’d like to share with you some feedback from our Hobart dance and cultural workshops:

‘It is a little over a week now since Hobart audiences to Kinship and the participants in the related workshops were ‘blown away’ by talent, theatrical spectacle, generosity, good humour, warmth and professionalism. The week was truly wonderful – not least because the students from MacKillop who attended the workshop and the show (or in some cases, one of the two) have gained hugely in their appreciation of their own identity and in their passion for the Arts. Many have struggled with what it is to be a Tasmanian Aboriginal person and also have had little opportunity to experience world class theatre. The company’s visit has made a real and tangible difference and I hear it as I walk around the school and ‘trip’ into various conversations. From sore muscles to laughter; from imitations of Deborah’s beautiful brolga to discussions of totem connections and set construction; and a keenness to review some of the footage taken… it’s all been happening. The kids are speaking with pride about having been involved – at whatever level… and I thank you for that opportunity to grow their self esteem.’
