Bangarra are well into the new year, and shedding our holiday skins. Through many hours of cardio, Pilates and class our dancers’ bodies begin to emerge from within, cracking through any of the left over December coma. It’s only a couple of days until we perform in the Netherlands for the Holland Dance Festival. As a group we’ve set all cogs in motion to regain fitness and performance quality for our first show of the year, and excitement slowly builds. It’s extra special to travel to dance festivals, I think more so than corporate international tours, as it gives us a chance to immerse ourselves into the international dance scene, to mingle with dancers from other countries, and to be inspired and reminded of the global dance community of which we are a part of. This tour will be the last for our beloved brother Daniel Riley, but he has left his mark in the company, and I’m sure it won’t be the last time we see him here with us. Not only has he had influence in the studio and on the stage, but he has also left us all following his lead and investing in bicycles. Almost all of the company now have all sorts of attractive wheels with which we roll into work on, a legacy of fitness and efficiency he’s leaving us!
The energy in the studio has been positive and hard working, as we band together and make sure we have a tight and moving show for our Dutch audiences.
